68 bug project...

hey up all. well i bought this beetle before the '66 as a project but when the 66 came along needing less work it got put to the back of the pile and has since sat stripped down under a car cover in the back yard,

its not a small project, theres plenty of welding to do and theres a good few parts missing, but on the plus side it comes with a few of the repair pannels it needs, a good pair of steel front wings, a pair of fiberglass rears and a new adjustable front beam,

welding wise it basicaly needs the bottom 6" (the previous owner has replaced one heater channel and theres another one with the car) i've got a new front clip, and a few other repair pannels it needs, the rear inner arches need a fair bit of work too. the chassis is pretty good. someones put new pan halfs in at some point but hasn't tried hard to paint them so theres a bit of surface rust so clean up. the main spine is all in good condition and i've got a new adjustable beam for it.

theres a pair of doors and a bonnet with it but they've seen better days. not past repairing but not great either. the decklid is good tho. theres a 1200cc motor to go with it and a matching gearbox with long axles.

as i said theres a lot of daft bits missing but its a cheap tax exempt project thats not beyond saving, was just more work than i wanted at the time and realisticaly im not gonna find the time or money to get on with it over winter.

its currently in bits in the back yard but if anyones genuinly intrested in it i'll put it back together and get it rolling at least so it can be trailered away.

these are the only pics i have of it at the moment, as it came to me at the start of the year

obviously come and have a look at it because its not a small project but its worth saving i think. if nobody wants it i'll keep the chassis, chop the shell up and have me a beach buggy

it owes me a lot more but £500 takes it!

Re: 68 bug project...

price drop!

£400

comes with a new adjustable beam, front clip, a heater channel, various other repair pannels, a complete 1200 motor and a decent chassis!

need it gone and i dont want to chop it up, its worth more in bits really but if someone wants a winter project i'd rather it was saved!!

Re: 68 bug project...

There's no getting round it, it's a big project fella! Basically needs the bottom 6"

It's not beyond saving, everything from a foot up is solid as a rock,

There's a couple of boxes of small parts with it, and a few other bits that I've not had chance to search through,

I'm gonna get it all put back together loosely if not this weekend then next weekend, so if you want a look when it's together be my guest fella! I'll be able to tell you more what it's missing then too!

It's a shame to chop it up but I can't see me having the funds to do anything with it, :(

Anyway I'm only in Preston fella just east of hull,

Re: 68 bug project...

hey up everyone, ok well this is back up for grabs again in one way or another, was going to use the chassis and find another body in better shape but tbh im still on with the franken bug, working loads, and starting a screen printing / t-shirt buisness on the side now too so i've just not got the time to do anything with it, plus i need the cash! so either the first £350 gets it in the next week or so or i chop it up for body cuts and keep the chassis for the frankenbug pt 2 since its actualy in better condition to be welding roll cages too!

if anyones seriously intrested let me know, i advise coming and having a look because its a big project, but at that price you couldnt buy the parts let alone the car. i need it off the drive and some cash in my pocket!

Re: 68 bug project...

Yeah still available! Like i said in the post it's a big project but it's about as cheap as you'll find one, the floorpans good tho and comes with a gearbox, adjustable front beam, its had new floorpans in the past, there's some panels with it too, a new heater channel, front clip, plus some other odds, there's an old set of seats in it too,

There are a good few daft bits missing but it's worth a look at!
It would break for a lot more money but I've not got the time or the patience at the moment!

If you want to give me a bell im in Preston just east of hull,

Steve

Re: 68 bug project...

I'd have it off you straight away steve but my garage will only take a SWB hence the buggy.
