Re: bad luck betty!

hey up fellas. yeah its getting there!

tbh i dont think the ride will ever be great! the motor and box are all solid mounted, so the noise in the car in insane!

im sure i can get it better than it is tho, i think the rear springs/dampers are a bit too stiff, will try turning the dampers down a touch and maybe some softer springs, although im not quite sure what poundage the current ones are!? and on the flip side of it they need to be fairly stiff to work at the strip! cant win really!!

Sorry to hear about the job mate :(

Betty's looking double hard though :D

The fact you've made your car so impractical in the persuit of speed shows commitment I can't relate to  Respect is definately due

Re: bad luck betty!

 well about time for an update!

a lots happened since last time, i made it to york finaly, and after a couple of granny launches and 14's i gave it a bit more welly and got a new pb of 13.2 @ 107mph on very low boost, next run i wanted to push it a bit more and get the 12 i've been after but i over reved it and knocked a rocker loose, which resulted in a lash cap falling off, going down a push rod tube and stopping my weekends racing! i dropped the oil when i got back with the hopes of finding the lash cap in the strainer but all i found was lots of debris and metal shavings! so i decided to split the motor and investigate. it turned out to be a couple of daft problems but i didnt have the cash to sort it at the time so she's been sat up since august again.

i've since had to sell the turbo kit to pay for the engine parts i need so im going back to carbs for the time being, partly because i cant afford to run the turbo or indeed race, and partly because i cant afford to house a car that i cant use. so i need to make it more usable again. quite how usable a back halfed race car can be im not sure but im willing to give it a bash!

curently im waiting on a cheap merged header turning up, and i need a new dizzy drive gear for my motor and a pair of manifolds for the 45's then i can get it back together again, make an exhaust muffler up out of an old 3" borla turbo muffler i used for hte turbo setup and i'll be ready for an mot i recon! more or less anyway!

Loving that motor! Shame you had to sell the parts.
What times are you hitting on the track with the carbs fitted?

Re: bad luck betty!

Hey up all, sorry for the lack of updates for such a long time, as some of you may know I had to sell Betty as a rolling shell just after Xmas so I'm afraid she's gone to pastures new! We had to move house and money was just too tight so she had to go!

On the plus side we now have a small garage and a drive at last so I picked up a 68 project the other day and more recently a 66 too, I'll make a post about them soon!

I did keep my motor tho and it'll be going into the 66 when I get it put back together, this time fuel injected!

the last time i ran the motor minus turbo it was running 13.8's fella.

Hell! What size motor and gearbox where you running. Had a 1776 a few years back with twin 45 Dells that I ran at York a few times. 1200 gearbox though. Off like sh1t off a shovel in 1st and 2nd but 3 and 4th were like the scene from driving Miss Daisy! Best time 15.3
