Re: franken-bug

well been a while since i've updated but thats mainly because works basicaly come to a halt at the moment. the mrs has been off work sick for 6 weeks on statutory sick pay so spare cash is a bit hard to come by at the moment! but i've been doing the odd little bits to bide my time. only really notable change is i've finaly got round to lettering and striping one side of the car. or at least made a start on it. still got the frankenbug itself to add above the lettering, and the lettering needs another go over once its dried (i've not got a propper large area brush so the one shot wont cover very well at the moment)

anyway hope you all approve!

the colours sublime green, with a red drop shadow, although the colours aint picked up very well by the camera.

i gave the pannel striping a bit of a bash too and im quite pleased with it, considering it was bloody cold, blowing a gale and months since i last picked the brush up!

theres one of two wobbles and the thickness varies a little here and there but its the frankenbug, its not supposed to be pretty! :P

Re: franken-bug

god its been ages since i last posted any updates! wish there was more to show but nevermind! its slowely starting to move again now!

my mate came over a couple of weekends back so we pulled the pile of crap 1200 back out of it and since we were on a roll i decided to put the 2109 back in for mock up again so i could work out where to fit the regulator etc on the firewall and to check a couple of other issues i noticed when trying to get the 1200 in,

i decided to test another colour on the tinware, looks a bit more interesting than black and ties in with the green pinstriping on the car, its just slightly darker than the stripe colour so i've put a really subtle stripe over it, which works quite well i think, the cylinder tins etc will all be done the same, and the alternator, pedistal and manifolds will all be black, not quite decided wether to detail the carbs black or leave them au naturel!, i'd like them black i think but their brand new and im reluctant to do it!! will see!

Image

i've also finished welding up the trim holes on the drivers side, filled and painted them so its all ready for some artwork and pinstriping now!

and i've cleaned up the lettering on the other side with a red outline which makes it pop a little more,

Image

Image

theres also a long list of other stupid jobs i've done that aint really worth mentioning,

and finaly im in need of some lights for the bug and since genuine second hand slopers seem to go for a fortune and the crap repro ones are a bloody fortune too i've been thinking about alternative ideas, and i've come up with an idea that works really well with the gasser look of the car, my plan is to paint the headlamp bowl black, mount a small bike/kitcar headlight in the bowl and then put an origional chrome ring/glass or possibly perspex over the top, which will give it that old gasser look from the 70's that cars like lightening bug had but the light will still be adjustable for mot purposes and be bright enough, i've had a chat with my local mot tester and he cant see any problems with it so i bought one to play with the other day, i recon it might look pretty cool once its obscured a little by the glass/ perspex and when the chrome rings in place! :D

Image

Image

the flash on the camera dosn't help because its illuminating the bowl at the moment but its a bit different, its light, and its probably a damn site brighter than the std lights too!

oh and im picking up some 3.5" centerlines for the front at drag day, but they are for stage II ;)

Re: franken-bug

Loving the light treatments dude, do they have built-in sidelights or are you running seperate ones?

Re: franken-bug

hey up dude, yeah they have side, dip and main, £30 ish off ebay, and their pretty good quality tbh! steel casing, not plastic.

just found a pair of cheap old slopers so i might put these on the back burner in the intrests of actually getting the bloody thing finished but we'll see! depends how useable the slopers are, might just use the glass and rings.
