How do you remove the gear rod from the centre console thing

Hello! I wonder if anyone can help me! I am striping down a beetle floor plan before getting it shot blasted and I have removed everything apart from the gear rod I think it's called which goes from the gear box to the gear stick? Does anyone know how I get this out ???? I would be greatfyll for any advice! Thanks

Hi, welcome Scoobydubber.

You need to undo the rear coupling/bush via access through the rear inspection plate and unbolt the front inspection plate where the beam attaches to the pan. From what i remember it's a bit of a struggle to pull through the gear rod.
