type 4 conversion

hey just wondered if anyones ever attempted putting a type 4 engine in their bug or could steer me in the right direction as ive found a complete CU code engine which after buying it and the fan housing kit still seems cheaper than a decent second hand t1 turnkey?

Re: type 4 conversion

Fairbank and Craven in Scarborough would probably have some good advice for you. Not sure if they've done a t4 in a bug, but they've done a lot of conversions in campers ;)

Re: type 4 conversion

i did look into it, quite a while ago tho, i think you need to change the fly wheel, clutch and input shaft,

i also seem to think you might have to widen the engine bay a tad too.

the DTM (down the middle) fan housing kits were the best when i was looking, but like i said, it was many moons and many, many beers ago.

fairbank and craven will be ya best bet, lee's a good lad.

Re: type 4 conversion

Have you priced up the porsche fan and alternator ? normally the fan housing kits dont include these and they arnt cheap. Im pretty sure you need to machine the top of the case to allow the porsche fan to fit central. Good luck and let us know the out come.
